Fort Hunter Liggett:
There are 2 archery only Elk hunts. Your odds of getting drawn are likely very good. 2004 year was the first year for these archery only hunts and on the civilian side only 17 people applied for 5 cow elk tags. I don’t know the number of military that applied but historically it has been less than civilians. Hunter Liggett makes available an equal number of tags for civilian and military and do a separate drawing for each. Civilians applied for these 5 tags through DFG and military apply for their 5 tags through Hunter Liggett. It is a very closely monitored drawing so it is completely fair with no favoritism.
