Committee Reports

- Membership Committee – Club membership dues are $20 per year and are effective for one year from time of activation.  Dues can be paid at Club meetings or mailed in.  See the Club Website for mailing address at http://thesportsmansclub.netfirms.com.

- Buildings and Grounds –Club meetings will be at building number 24065 in the 24 area next to the PX and Gym. This location is working out great for the club. Please help spread the word of the new location.

- Publicity Committee – Club Patches are available from Tom Johnson the Club Secretary / Treasurer.  Please contact Tom at a meeting or event about purchasing your Club patch, cost is $5.  Recommend Club members sew the Club patch on their hunting/fishing/shooting vests to publicize the Club.

- Fishing Committee

  – Free fishing trips still available through the Dana Wharf Sportfishing.  See Fishing News on the Clubs website for information and contact one of the coordinators.  Active duty can go for free through the entire week.

SALT water report-

- Fred Wolfrom from Pacific Coast Bait and Tackle reported that shore/surf fishing is not so good right now.

FRESH water report-

- Lake O’Neill- Bass are hitting good at the upper end of the lake but the fish are small (catch and release for Bass).  Crappies are finished spawning and fishing is slow.

- Hunting Committee

  - Electric motors may be allowed in the boat zones this year for duck season.

  - No hunting will be permitted from the shores of the boat zones.

  - For the deer hunters, the probability of having a station on the North side does not look good.  Statistics from last year show that 90% of hunters are from the East and South.  This decision is not final.

  - The club would like to put together a Dove hunt once the season opens.  All members interested please attend the next meeting or contact any officer of the club

  - The time is near for the 2006/2007 hunting licenses.  Remember to get yours renewed, Federal, State and on base licenses.

Old and unfinished business

  - The Club will present the plaque to the Moore Group who put on the fabulous Greenhead duck shoot last February during the first week of August.

  - The next Rifle Sight-in / Familiarization Fire range date is on September 9th.  The July and August range dates have been canceled.

  - The Club still needs to get members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-In-Charge (OIC) by the Base.  Any Club member can receive the training and become qualified as an RSO / OIC.  The Base RSO / OIC course is given every Friday starting at 0700 in building 2399.  Please support your club by getting you RSO cards.

  - Has anyone heard or know what the Ft. Hunter Leggett tag limit is?  Has anyone heard or know about the Vandenberg AFB pig hunt?  Please contact Tom Johnson with the information.

  - Club member Rob Shuford (currently deployed to Iraq) inquired into getting some fishing gear sent over for the transition teams so they could fish with the Iraqis they are living with and training (sort of a sportsmen team-building thing).  Fred Wolfrom is working on gathering gear to send.  He is awaiting more word as to what exactly the Marines need.

  - The Base Hunting Bulletin is still be finalized and all the Club’s recommendations are being considered.

  - Members who applied for Hunter-Liggett elk tags are still waiting to hear if they were selected for an elk hunting tag.

New business

  - The Club is soliciting for a Projects Committee leader who can motivate others, work in arduous conditions, and is good with his hands.  If you feel you meet these requirements please contact any officer of the Club for duty as the leader.

  - Frank Alessio, NRA Instructor, will be conducting the NRA Range Safety Officer Course at the Escondido Fish and Game Association on August 6th.  The Club will pay for the cost of the course.  This course is a requirement to serve as a RSO for Club shoots.  Contact Dennis Loftis, 760-632-2547, if interested.

- Hunting during the off season is available for rabbits, squirrels and

coyotes.  The hunting hours will be 0800 to 1800.  Please call the Warden’s office at 725-3360 to ensure that there are open areas and that the fire danger conditions allow hunting.

- Deer tags will be available at the Warden’s Office building in August.

The next Club meeting will be on 8 August at 1830 in Bldg 24065.

Adjournment.  Meeting adjourned at 1919.
