Minutes of Pendleton Sportsman’s Club meeting on September 5, 2006

Call to Order.  Meeting opened by President Dennis Loftis at 1838.

Approval of August’s minutes as published.

Report of Secretary/Treasurer.  Tom Johnson reported.  Account information; balance is $1,175.13, two bills of $60.00 each for NRA RSO course were paid,  no outstanding checks or bills due.  The total member count is currently being conducted to ensure an accurate count. 

Committee Reports

-Membership Committee.  Nothing new to report. Dues can be paid at Club meetings or mailed in.  See the Club Website for mailing address at http://thesportsmansclub.netfirms.com.

-Buildings and Grounds.  Club meetings will be at building number 24065 in the 24 area next to the PX and Gym.  The building key has to be picked-up from the MCAS Duty in building 23123.

-Publicity Committee.   The idea of introducing the Club to the single Marines program was brought up.  More to follow as information is gathered.

-Fishing Committee

  –Free fishing trips still available through the Dana Wharf Sportfishing.  See Fishing News on the Clubs website for information and contact one of the coordinators.  Active duty can go for free throughout the week.

  -Fish with a Warrior Event.  Was conducted on August 26th, the turn out was excellent to include Marines from the Wounded Warrior program and everyone had a great time.  The Bloodydeck anglers did an outstanding job!

SALT water report-

-Fred Wolfrom from Pacific Coast Bait and Tackle reported that lots of yellow tail but their small.  Surf fishing is good.  Marlin is as good as it is going to get.  Yellow fin tuna is OK.  Del Mar boat basin on base is good now.   

FRESH water report-

-Lake O’Neill- Water level low, all fishing is slow, a few catfish being caught.

-Hunting Committee.  See Old and New Business sections.

  - Seven Club members got out this past weekend for a dove hunt, they limited out November area

  - Do we want to do another organized dove hunt?  TBD for second season.

  - Elk hunting is available at Ft. Hunter Leggett apply for tags directly through Ft. Hunter Leggett.

  - Club pheasant hunt for November in the Niland area is being considered. 

-Project Committee.  Need to organize a group to put out new duck blinds or repair the ones we have now.

Old and unfinished business

-The next Rifle Sight-in/Familiarization Fire range schedule for Saturday, September 5th, was canceled.  Club is planning to fire Sunday, September 17th, from 1000-1400 Wilcox range 103 if enough members are interested.  RSVP to Dennis if you want to shoot NLT 1200 this Friday, September 15th, hollywoodusmc@earthlink.net.

-The Club still needs to get members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-In-Charge (OIC) by the Base.  Any Club member can receive the training and become qualified as an RSO/OIC.  The Base RSO/OIC course requirements have changed, see attached RSO.zip file for more information.  Please support your club by getting you RSO cards.

-Base hunting bulletin is not published yet.  Vic Yoder advised the club that last year’s bulletin would be in effect until this year’s is published.

New business

-2006/2007 hunting licenses.  Remember to get your Federal, State and on-base licenses renewed.  Federal duck stamps are available at the Main and Del Mar post offices. 

-Deer tag exchange can be done now at the Wardens Office Building (WOB), building 25155.

-Archery bow season will be open on the weekends from September 16th to October 9th.

-Rifle/shotgun deer hunters safety brief will be given at the WOB on Saturday, September 30th at 0900; Wednesday, October 4th, and Wednesday, October 11th at 1730.

-Rifle deer season will be open on weekends and some holidays from October 14 to November 26th.

-Hunter Education Classes

  -September 9 and 10, Frank Alessio will be conducting course at the Escondido Fish & Game association near Lake Wolford. Students must attend classes both days and pass course test to receive Hunter Safety Certification card. For more information call Frank at 760-743-8718.

-Free Fishing Day on September 23rd, no state license required.

-Lake O’Neill Kids Fishing Derby on September 30th from 0800-1100.

-Members need to keep their email addresses up to date, if you have a new email address notify Tom at tjohnson@osec.com.

The October Club meeting will be THE SECOND TUESDAY, 10 October at 1830 in Bldg 24065.
