Minutes of Pendleton Sportsman’s Club meeting

January 9, 2007

Call to Order.  Meeting opened by President Dennis Loftis at 1843.

Approval of December’s minutes as published.

Report of Secretary/Treasurer
-Total member count is 62, 49 active duty / 13 retired military & civilian.
-Members need to keep their email addresses up to date!  If you have a new email address notify Tom at tjohnson@osec.com.
-Account information; balance is $1,166.13.  Dennis paid for NRA dues ($35.00) and California Rifle and Pistol Association dues ($25.00).

Vic Yoder, Base Game Warden
-Passed out copies of Base hunting bulletin for members to review.  Request any recommended changes be submitted by end of April, early May at the latest.  Vic asks that the comment sheets he passed out be used for recommended changes and that members list the page number, paragraph, and sentence of change.
-Collating data from hunting season to assess hunter effort/hunter success, ie. tags issued, hours spent hunting.
-Fire Danger Rating is at 81.
-For next year’s deer season Vic has added one week and requested an additional 100 tags.
-Next year’s archery season will open same week as Dove.
-Warden’s office will be moving to building 2648 (warehouse row).  Maps will be posted at the game shack and throughout the base once the move has occurred.  Phone number will be the same: 760-725-3360.

Committee Reports
-Membership Committee.  Nothing new to report. Dues can be paid at Club meetings or mailed in.  See Club Website for mailing address at http://thesportsmansclub.netfirms.com.
-Buildings and Grounds Committee.  Club meetings will be at building number 24065 in the 24 area next to the PX and Gym.  The new game warden facility has an area to be designated as a classroom.  Meetings will be held here once the classroom is complete. 
-Publicity Committee.  Nothing new to report.
-Fishing Committee
  –Free fishing trips available through the Dana Wharf Sportfishing.  See Fishing News on the Clubs website for more information.  POC is 2ndLt Curtis Williamson, contact him at curtis.williamson@usmc.mil, if interested.  Active duty military can go for free throughout the week.
-SALT water report
  -Not good at this time. 
-FRESH water report
  -Still slow until the water temperature warms up.
-Hunting Committee—
  -Gary Baumann is researching Club pig hunt planned for 17-19 February 2007 at Vandenberg AFB.  Gary will provide a report at next meeting.  Vic Yoder offered use of Warden’s to store pig’s taken for a few days.
  -Dennis has contacted Wounded Warriors at Camp Pendleton and Balboa Naval Hospital to attend Green Head shoot on 10 February.
-Project Committee. 
-Targets for the Green Head club event have been made.  Jim needs volunteers to help on February 3rd setting up the six targets at Green Head.  Contact Jim Post at 949-369-5257 or vtsjim@aol.com if you can help.   

Committee Reports (cont.)
-Any additional duck blinds that need to be built must be in place my March.  Volunteers are needed for these too. 
Old and unfinished business
-The Club still needs to get members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-In-Charge (OIC) by the Base.  Any Club member can receive the training and become qualified as an RSO/OIC.  Please support your club by getting your RSO cards.  Dennis will get CD’s of RSO Distance Learning required training for members who cannot access it at home or on base.
-Green Head Hunt Club will sponsor the 2nd Annual Pendleton Sportsman’s Club Military Appreciation and Family Day on February 10, 2007.  Families are encouraged to attend; everything is free except duck cleaning.  Last years event was a great time.  Sign-up for event is closed.  We have 50 attendees and 30 shooters signed up.
-Rifle sight-in/familiarization fire dates for 2007 will be discussed at February meeting.
-California Waterfowl Association 18th annual San Diego County Chapter Dinner on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Elks Club in El Cajon.  Dennis will send out more information.
-El Toro Archers, Inc. would still like to partner with Sportsman’s Club to fix and maintain archery ranges on base.  They are coordinating with MCCS to become recognized as a private club on base.  All interested archers contact Kurt Muller at 866-510-6559, ext. 2976, email eltoroarchers@onebox.com, or Jim Post at 949-369-5257 or vtsjim@aol.com.  Also, see their web site at: http://www.eltoroarchers.org. 

New business
-The Club’s general liability insurance policy with Lockton Risk Services (NRA endorsed) needs to be renewed.  Both MCCS and MCB regulations require the liability insurance.  Cost is $470.33.  Members voted to approve payment and Dennis will make the payment.
-Base hunting bulletin will be posted on club website for member’s to review and make recommendations for changes.  Submit your recommendations to Dennis at; hollywoodusmc@earthlink.net no later than April 30th.  He will collate the proposed changes and submit them to Vic.
-Nomination and election of new Club officers will be at February meeting.  Dennis will send out information about each officer’s responsibilities.  If anyone is interested in filling a position let Dennis know.  Everyone needs to attend the February meeting and participate in the election.
-MCB Pendleton has again authorized the Club as a private organization aboard the Base.  Dennis will complete the additional administrative requirements and submit them to MCCS.
-Dave McCarthy has volunteered to coordinate the appreciation gifts for the Moote Group personnel who are sponsoring the Military Appreciation and Family Day.  The Moote personnel will be recognized and the gifts presented at Green Head on the day of the shoot; February 10th.
-Laura Adams, wife of Marine Chris Adams, has volunteered to do the Pendleton Sportsman's Club web site. Laura’s email address: laura@lokatproductions.com.  –A special thanks goes to Steve Karns, one of our founding members and former Club Secretary and Treasurer who served as our Webmaster for the last two years.  Steve built and maintained our web site always doing an outstanding job.

Note:  The FEBRUARY Club meeting will be THE FIRST TUESDAY, February 6th at 1830 in Bldg 24065.
