Call to Order. Meeting convened in the Wardens Office Building (WOB), Bldg 2648 at 1830.
Minutes: Approval of September 2008 minutes as published.

- Bank Balance: $590.55 as of the end of September 2008.
- Total member count is 64: 22 active duty, 25 retired military, 2 DOD employees, and 15 civilians.
Base Game Warden’s Report:
- Hunter Education – 20 September 2008 Wardens Office Building (WOB), Bldg 2648.
- Bring a lunch (it will be a working lunch)
- The class begins at 0830 (please arrive earlier)
- Please call ahead to register with the Game Warden’s Office (a few days to a week prior) at 760-725-3360.
Committee Reports
Fishing Committee – All fishing is good right now, especially Albacore, Yellow fin, and Yellow Tail
- Alex Berzins is willing to take people fishing in exchange for helping with the cost of fuel. Please contact Alex directly Email: alex@sharkbitefishing.com
Hunting Committee – California Duck Stamps are now available at the All Seasons Store at Mainside Exchange. The Mainside Exchange is currently out of Upland Game Stamps.
- Turkey season opens 8 November for toms and hens.
- Kevin Grill saw a buck and a doe at Vandenberg.
- Falconry Hunt: Anyone interested in organizing a Falconry Hunt or getting started in the sport of Falconry, contact Tom Parker at Thomas.K.Parker@usmc.mil

Old Business
Range Safety Officer Requirements: The Pendleton Sportsman's Club needs members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-in-Charge (OIC) by the Base. They must be Camp Pendleton and NRA qualified RSOs. Please contact Dennis by email if you are interested. hollywoodusmc@earthlink.net.
Archery: If you wish to sharpen up your archery skills and receive some expert coaching, fill out the application for the El Toro-Pendleton Archers (ETPA) Club, on the Club website. The Club has a 16-target, 3D-field range and a practice area with targets ranging from 10 to 80 yards. The 3D targets are a challenge covering critters from Woodchuck to Elk. The ETPA Club members willingly provide expert guidance and archery equipment knowledge. The ETPA also sponsors 3D tournaments as well as charity events. The Mainside archery range is open daily from dawn to dusk and is located off Vandegrift near the Game Warden’s Office Building.

Discussed El Toro-Pendleton Archers (ETPA) Club merging with Pendleton Sportsman’s Club
- Voted in favor to have the El Toro-Pendleton Archers (ETPA) Club merge with the Pendleton Sportsman’s Club.
Base Hunting Bulletin 1710: Pendleton Sportsman’s Club had the opportunity to review, make recommendations and propose changes to improve hunting on the Base. The Bulletin is divided into four sections: (1) Hunting Seasons, (2) Small Game Hunting Regulations, (3) Waterfowl Hunting Regulations, and (4) Deer Hunting Regulations. The Base-hunting bulletin will also be posted on the club website.
Volunteer Hours: Discussed creating a spreadsheet to document Volunteer Hours (name, hours, project, and mileage) to be submitted to Chief Game Warden Vic Yoder.
Activities
Rattle Snake Avoidance Courses:
- The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of the De Luz Mountain Empire sponsors very effective rattle snake avoidance training almost every other Sunday at the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue off Little Gopher Canyon Road in Bonsall. The fee for the class is $100 per dog of which $50 is a donation to support the Rescue. For additional information or to sign up contact Jan Flaherty at 760-726-4813 or email info@gsp-rescue.org. Regulations
- California Fish & Game website has Mammal and Salt Water Fishing Regulations posted.
- 1 July 2008 – No lead ammunition allowed at Vandenberg.
New Business
Pig Hunt - Roxanne Baxter will organize Valentine’s Day Weekend pig hunt to be held at Vandenberg 14-16 February 2009.
