Minutes of the Pendleton Sportsman's Club
15 April 2009
Call to Order. Meeting convened in the Wardens Office Building (WOB), Bldg 2648 at 1830.
Minutes: Approval of March 2009 minutes as published.

- Total member count is 115: 52 active duty, 34 retired military, 2 DOD employees, and 27 civilians.
Base Game Warden’s Report:
- Hunter Education – Game Wardens Office Building , Bldg 2648, May 12th
- Bring a lunch (it will be a working lunch)
- The class begins at 0830 (please arrive earlier)
- Please call ahead to register with the Game Warden’s Office a few days to a week prior
at 760-725-3360
- No Dogs will be allowed to be used after March 15th
Committee Reports
- Archery - If you wish to sharpen up your archery skills and receive some expert coaching, the Club has a 16-target, 3D-field range and a practice area with targets ranging from 10 to 80 yards. The 3D targets are a challenge covering critters from Woodchuck to Elk. The Club Archery Committee members willingly provide expert guidance and archery equipment knowledge. The eClub also sponsors 3D tournaments as well as charity events. The Mainside archery range is open daily from dawn to dusk and is located off Vandegrift near the Game Warden’s Office Building. - Rob Butler reported that the Base Order is being staffed right now.
- The Club has restored the range at SOI (School of Infantry).
- Fishing Committee - Nothing new to report.
- Alex Berzins is willing to take people fishing in exchange for helping with the cost of fuel. Please contact Alex directly Email: alex@sharkbitefishing.com
- Hunting Committee - Aivars Berzins spent a great evening in the woods listening to the wilderness around him while waiting for a pig to show his face, needless to say, the freezer is still empty.
Guzzler Report:
Mike will be looking for volunteers to relocate some of the fiberglass guzzlers. Please contact Mike and let him know if you would like to participate by emailing him at michael.j.tucker@usmc.mil.

- Range Safety Officer Requirements:
- The Pendleton Sportsman's Club needs members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-in-Charge (OIC) by the Base. They must be Camp Pendleton and NRA qualified RSOs. Please contact Dennis by email if you are interested. hollywoodusmc@earthlink.net
- Rattle Snake Avoidance Courses:
- Kindred Spirits Canine Education Center is proud to announce that they are hosting a Rattlesnake Avoidance Clinic by Patrick Callaghan at the training center located at 3343 East Vista Way, Vista, Ca 92084 (Between Gopher Canyon and Highway 76; two long blocks south of 76 on the east side of East Vista Way) on Saturday July 18th. New Business
There was a lengthy discussion on a proposal to that would establish 500 yard buffer zones around main roads, buildings and impact areas resulting in the possible closure of various hunting areas or significantly decreasing the size of the areas available for hunting. Aivars Berzins took an action item to write a letter to the Base Commander recommending against such action.
