Minutes of the Pendleton Sportsman's Club

Call to Order. Meeting convened in the Wardens Office Building (WOB), Bldg 2648 at 1830.

Minutes: Approval of May 2009 minutes as published.

Our website will also provide you with fishing and hunting news, pictures, history of Club events such as the 2009 Green head Shoot, February Vandenberg Pig Hunt, deer harvest, and small game statistics from the 2008 hunting season, as well as, other useful information and contacts.

Report of Secretary/Treasurer:

  • Bank Balance: $3148.62 as of the 23 May 2009.
  • Total member count is 109: 48 active duty, 33 retired military, 2 DOD employees, and 28 civilians.

Base Game Warden’s Report:

Hunter Education – Game Wardens Office Building , Bldg 2648
Please call ahead to register with the Game Warden’s Office a few days to a week prior at 760-725-3360. Bring a lunch (working thru lunch). Class begins at 0830 (arrive early).

Committee Reports

  • Archery – If you wish to sharpen up your archery skills and receive some expert coaching, the Club has a 16-target, 3D-field range and a practice area with targets ranging from 10 to 80 yards. The 3D targets are a challenge covering critters from Woodchuck to Elk. The Club Archery Committee members willingly provide expert guidance and archery equipment knowledge. The eClub also sponsors 3D tournaments as well as charity events. The Mainside archery range is open daily from dawn to dusk and is located off Vandegrift near the Game Warden’s Office Building.     • Rob Butler reported that the Base Order is being staffed right now.
    • The Club has restored the range at SOI (School of Infantry).
    • Archery Class scheduled on 27 June 2009 @ 1000 to 1100. This Class includes the safety brief and is a prerequisite for using the archery ranges.
  • Hunting Committee – Nothing new to report.
    • Pala Indian Range near the Pala Indian Casino is available to guests to sight in rifles. Membership-$50/year
  • Fishing Committee – Nothing new to report.
    • Alex Berzins is willing to take people fishing in exchange for helping with the cost of fuel. Please contact Alex directly Email: alex@sharkbitefishing.com

Guzzler Report:

Mike will be looking for volunteers to relocate some of the fiberglass guzzlers. Please contact Mike and let him know if you would like to participate by emailing him at michael.j.tucker@usmc.mil.

    • Range Safety Officer Requirements:
      • The Pendleton Sportsman's Club needs members qualified as Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Officers-in-Charge (OIC) by the Base. They must be Camp Pendleton and NRA qualified RSOs. Please contact Dennis by email if you are interested. hollywoodusmc@earthlink.net
    • Rattle Snake Avoidance Courses:
      • Kindred Spirits Canine Education Center is proud to announce that they are hosting a Rattlesnake Avoidance Clinic by Patrick Callaghan at the training center located at 3343 East Vista Way, Vista, Ca 92084 (Between Gopher Canyon and Highway 76; two long blocks south of 76 on the east side of East Vista Way) on Saturday July 18th.   • Regulations
    • The upgraded security system is now in place for Civilian club members not affiliated with Camp Pendleton.. Any Civilian Sportsman’s Club members who don’t have a permanent base access credential should contact Glen Simmons (949) 492 4722 to be entered into the Pendleton Security Database so they can gain regular access (you can come on the base 3 times in any 45 day period without this security clearance).

New Business

We wish to thank Rob Butler who is the current Vice President and President of the Archery Club for his service to the Pendleton Sportsman's Club. He will be leaving the area and we will need to fill his position at the next meeting to keep the Pendleton Sportsman's Club and the Archery Club active.
