Committee Reports
- Archery
- The archery tournament at the SoI range was a success. About 60 shooters attended. Bear State Archers graciously loaned us about two dozen targets and a novelty pop-up target for the event. The balance of the targets used was former El Toro Archers inventory. Representatives from several prominent archery shops and clubs attended, and are very supportive of our efforts. About $500 (after expenses) was earned for the Pendleton Sportsman’s Club.
- Another shoot is being planned for September. It will be a two-day shoot with overnight camping at the Beach Club. Glen Simmons is working to obtain advanced reservations.
- Bear State Archers (located near Lake Henshaw) is offering a special membership deal for active duty and retired military. Members get free admission to all tournaments and 24/7 access to the range. Contact Membership Chairman Chauncy Newlin (760-743-6015) or Glen Simmons for details.
- A Range Safety Course will be presented by Ryan McMurtrey every Tuesday @ 1130 at the Game Warden’s Office Bldg. 2648. This class is a prerequisite for the use of the Archery Range.
- Contact Ryan McMurtrey at the below email address for more information and if you wish to help him to create a “World Class” archery organization: Pilotr2413@gmail.com
- Hunting Committee
- Glen Simmons is recruiting to fill-out the hunting committee, which would ideally consist of four members. There was discussion of a new wild pig hunting opportunity in the Cleveland National Forest. A scouting party is being organized to get the details.
- Pala Indian Range near the Pala Indian Casino is a great place to sight in rifles. Membership-$50/year
- Fishing Committee
- Glen Simmons is recruiting to fill-out the fishing committee, which would ideally consist of four members. There was discussion of organizing a fishing trip up the 395 along the eastern Sierra crest. There are numerous excellent fishing opportunities up there that could be easily organized.
